Be Encouraged, Do Not Be Dismayed
Posted by Ashley Ellison
In response to last week's message, Be Encouraged, Pastor Ashley continues from John 14 to teach that the way to be encouraged is to refuse to be dismayed. In a world that makes it easy to be dismayed, Christians have just as much reason to be encouraged as we ever has. God is still God, and He is still good. Why should we be dismayed?

In the Sunday following the election, Adam Jones brings a great word about the the way Christians should be acting in response to the events going on and around us. "Feeling Caught In The Middle" shouldn't leave us caught up in our emotions, or find ourselves caught up in the results when we know who the King is.

Following the election results of the 2020 Presidential Election, Pastor Ashley calls for us in in time of change, to look to the One who is "Unchangeable". We can know, in our innermost being, that God never changes, and though we may end up with a new president, the Savior Of the World, The Prince of Peace, The Lion of Judah never changes.

Pastor Ashley Ellison tackles some of the most difficult topics that American Christians are dealing with as we approach the 2020 election. He breaks down for us what it looks like when the Christians in our country cast their votes from a Biblical worldview. Capitalism versus Socialism/Communism, Black Lives Matter Inc. versus all lives matter, Planned Parenthood/Abortion versus the pro-life movement...what does the Bible say about these? If you want to know, take a listen.

As he shows us in the word, the vertical covenant we have with God, mandates a horizontal covenant with the world around us, and because of that we , who are called to God, should be seeking to impact the culture around us.

Pastor Ashley preaches from Exodus 33. God promises to go with the Israelites as they enter the Promised Land to take possession of it. Realistically, they were heading into enemy territory where they knew they would face imminent danger, ungodly people, and fierce resistance. But God's promise in verse 14 was that He would go with them, give them rest, and that everything would be fine for them. That promise is for the church today as we live in perilous times, and we can find comfort in that understanding.

In Mark 11, we read of the fig tree that appeared on the outside to be good for fruit; however, it did not produce. Pastor Ashley uses this example to show us that as Christians we are created to produce, and when we don't, we are violating the intent of our creator. Jesus spoke to the fig tree and it died immediately at its roots. In like manner, we should be speaking to those things in our lives that are not producing according to God's will for our lives. Too often we speak to God about our problems when He has instructed us to use the Law of Faith to speak to our problems directly.

Pastor Ashley teaches us to rightly divide the passage in Luke 11:5-8, which many have taught as a comparison to God when it is, in fact, a contrast. We do not have to beg God for things that He not only desires to give, but has already given. In the Old Testament, great men like Moses and Abraham had to serve as mediators between God and man; however, today we have Christ as our mediator. He is always advocating on our behalf, but it is our job to position ourselves to receive whatever it is that we are asking for.

Melanie Bertoglio teaches from Isaiah 58 to remind us that the condition of our vertical relationship with God does not rest on what we do for Him, i.e. going to church, reading the Bible, fasting, praying, sacrificing, singing in the choir, etc. While all of these things are important, a loving, intimate relationship with God will manifest itself in our horizontal relationships with others. If our relationships and our communications with people do not reflect the heart of God toward them, then our vertical relationship with God is not what it needs to be. In today's culture, the world needs to see Christians being nice.
