A Relationship with God Part 5
Posted by Ashley Ellison
Pastor Ashley teaches us to rightly divide the passage in Luke 11:5-8, which many have taught as a comparison to God when it is, in fact, a contrast. We do not have to beg God for things that He not only desires to give, but has already given. In the Old Testament, great men like Moses and Abraham had to serve as mediators between God and man; however, today we have Christ as our mediator. He is always advocating on our behalf, but it is our job to position ourselves to receive whatever it is that we are asking for.

Melanie Bertoglio teaches from Isaiah 58 to remind us that the condition of our vertical relationship with God does not rest on what we do for Him, i.e. going to church, reading the Bible, fasting, praying, sacrificing, singing in the choir, etc. While all of these things are important, a loving, intimate relationship with God will manifest itself in our horizontal relationships with others. If our relationships and our communications with people do not reflect the heart of God toward them, then our vertical relationship with God is not what it needs to be. In today's culture, the world needs to see Christians being nice.

Prayer is communion with God, and not an attempt to inform a misinformed God. Using the Lord's Prayer as our outline for how to commune with God, Pastor Ashley encourages that if we start and end with praise, all of our circumstances that we are praying about become very small. When we think of our prayer time as communing with God, worshiping and loving Him as our primary goal, we can truly develop a deep and meaningful relationship with Him.

Pastor Ashley clearly explains the master/servant relationship referred to in Colossians 3:22-25 and 4:1, bringing to light the historical context and culture in which this passage was written. He contrasts it with our modern-day understanding of a master/servant relationship so that we are able to receive the truth from this passage concerning employers and employees.

"A Relationship with God Part 2" by Ashley Ellison. Pastor Ashley shares the words of the prophet Zephaniah as he emphasizes the goodness of God as motivation for our desire to have relationship with Him. God rejoices and dances over us with singing because of His great love for us, and if we have genuine gratitude in our hearts for that love, it will ignite in us a love for Him necessary to build a real relationship.

Position matters. It is important to know your season of life and what God has made available to you in order to position yourself for blessing and favor. God's desire is to bless us, and we receive blessing and avoid physical, mental, and spiritual frustration by learning that we play a part in positioning ourselves for that blessing.

In Part 5 of our study of Colossians, we learn that Paul did three very important things in regards to the church at Colosse. He shared the Gospel, suffered for the Gentiles, and worked hard on their behalf. These are all things that we Christians should consider when we are evaluating our personal responses to what Christ has done for us. Are we willing to do the very things that Paul did?

Pastor Ashley teaches us the importance of positioning ourselves for obedience and blessing. The reason we say "no" to something is so that we can say "yes" to something else that is more important. There are 3 things in life that affect our positioning: Adamic sin nature, our work ethic, and God's supernatural blessing.

    Say Yes
    Posted by Ashley Ellison
While Jesus was on the earth, He was always teaching His disciples to be like Him. He did not live His life as a receiver, but rather as a giver and a doer. The Word says that Christians will be identified by their fruit.  You are unable to "produce" if you go through life as a receiver. Pastor Ashley shows us how to move from the receiving stage of Christianity to the giving stage in order to live a transformed life. One of the ways we can do this is to "say yes." When given the opportunity to serve/give, say "yes."

    Stages of Christianity
    Posted by Ashley Ellison
There are three stages of Christianity: Receiving Stage, Transition Stage, and Transformation Stage. In the receiving stage, we are like children who are being fed by others. In the transition stage, we are learning to feed ourselves. And in the Transformation stage, we are feeding ourselves and feeding others. Pastor Ashley teaches us to recognize the stage that we are each in, and to understand the importance of reaching the transformation stage, where we are living to give of ourselves and our resources.
